Sticky Bra for Lift: How to Place It for Shape and Cleavage

Shapify backless silicone sticky bra

To use a sticky bra for lift, place each cup a little higher than your bust naturally sits, tilted so the clip end points slightly down towards your breastbone, and press it on from the outer edge inward. Then fasten the front clip: drawing the two cups together is what lifts the bust and creates cleavage. Clean, dry skin with no lotion keeps that lift in place.

Much of the disappointment with sticky bras comes from placement, not the bra. Put the cups on straight, at the height your bust already sits, and you get coverage with very little shape. A small change of angle and height, made in front of a mirror, is the difference between "it's on" and a lifted look under a backless choli or an off-shoulder gown.

How much lift can a sticky bra actually give?

A sticky bra has no straps or underwire, so all of its lift comes from two things: where you place the cups and how firmly the clip draws them together. Ours has moulded foam cups lined with silicone adhesive, which give the bust a rounded shape, and a clip at the centre for lift. What you can expect depends on your cup.

Cup Fits regular sizes What to expect
B 36A, 34B, 32C Clear lift and some cleavage, with the foam cups adding a rounded shape
C 38A, 36B, 34C, 32D Good lift and a close, shaped look once the clip is fastened
D 38B, 36C, 34D, 32DD A smooth, held shape with moderate lift; less height than a padded underwired bra
Above D Not covered by the cups Body tape gives more lift, because it supports the bust from below

Be realistic about it. A sticky bra lifts and shapes, but it won't match a padded push-up bra with wires for height. If your outfit needs dramatic lift, or you're fuller than a D cup, our honest answer on whether sticky bras work for heavy breasts explains the alternatives. Find your cup on the bra size chart before you order.

How should you prepare your skin?

Lift only lasts as long as the adhesive keeps its grip, and grip starts with the skin under it.

  • Shower, dry off completely and let your body cool down, so you aren't still warm and damp from the steam.
  • Keep body lotion, oil, powder, perfume and shimmer off your chest. Apply them everywhere else after the bra is on.
  • Wipe the area with a dry tissue just before you apply, especially on a humid day.
  • Look at the cups. If lint or hair is stuck to the adhesive, rinse it with lukewarm water and mild soap and let it air dry sticky side up before you wear it.
  • Dress under a fan or in AC if you can; applying in a steamy bathroom is the quickest way to lose the hold.

If the cups refuse to stick at all, our guide to why a sticky bra isn't sticking covers the usual culprits.

Where exactly should you place the cups?

  1. Lean forward slightly. Bend a little at the waist so your bust falls forward. You'll place the cup around it in a lifted position rather than where it rests when you stand upright.
  2. Turn the cup slightly inside out. This makes it easier to lay the adhesive on smoothly, edge first, without it catching on itself.
  3. Set it higher and tilted. Place the outer edge of the cup on the side of your bust first, a little higher than its natural line, with the cup tilted so the clip end points slightly down and in, towards your breastbone.
  4. Press from the outside in. Smooth the cup onto the skin from the outer edge towards the centre and hold for a few seconds so the adhesive grips.
  5. Match the other side. Repeat at the same height and angle. Check in the mirror before the adhesive settles; a cup placed half an inch lower than the other is obvious under a fitted blouse.
  6. Fasten the clip. Hook the cups together at the centre. The clip pulls the inner edges together and up, and that pull is your lift. Don't place the cups so far apart that the clip strains and the inner edges start peeling.
  7. Stand up and settle. Run a finger around each edge and press down any part that isn't lying flat.

For the everyday routine of putting one on, wearing it and taking it off, our guide on how to wear a sticky bra so it stays on has the basics.

How do you adjust placement for different necklines?

  • Backless blouse or dress: with nothing at the back to hide, go for full lift: cups higher, tilted, and the clip fastened snugly. Check the side view, because some blouses have low armholes that reveal the cup edge.
  • Strapless or off-shoulder: use the same high placement, then lift both arms and check that the top edges of the cups don't peep over the neckline.
  • Halter neck: halters often cut in at the sides, so keep the cups a little closer to the centre so the outer edges stay hidden at the armhole.
  • Sweetheart or moderate V: the clip sits where the neckline dips, so place the cups slightly lower so the clip drops out of sight. You'll trade a little lift for a clean neckline.
  • Deep plunge: the clip will show. Body tape, placed so it stays inside the edges of the neckline, is the better tool; our comparison of sticky bra vs boob tape explains when to switch.

How do you check it in the mirror?

Do a full trial in the actual outfit a day or two before the event, and look from four angles.

  • Front: both cups at the same height, the clip centred, and no gap at the top edge where a cup has lifted off the skin.
  • Side: a smooth curve, without a ridge at the cup edge under fitted fabric. Nude suits light fabrics; black works under dark ones.
  • Arms up: raise both arms as if you're dancing or pinning your dupatta, then check nothing has moved.
  • Seated: sit down and lean towards a table, the way you would at dinner. If an edge lifts, re-press it or tilt the cup a touch lower.

A gap at the top edge usually means the cup is too big, or it's placed too high on a smaller bust. Bust spilling over the top means you may need the next cup up. Our backless silicone sticky bra comes in cups B, C and D, in black or nude; our sticky bra collection shows both shades.

Lift from a sticky bra comes from three things you control: dry, product-free skin, cups placed higher and tilted, and a firmly fastened clip. Get those right in a mirror trial, and you'll know exactly what the outfit will look like on the day.

Frequently asked questions

Does the front clip really add lift?

Yes, it's the main source of lift. Drawing the cups together pushes the bust up and in; without it fastened, you get coverage and shape but much less lift.

Can a sticky bra give cleavage on a D cup?

Some, with the cups placed high and the clip fastened, but expect a smooth, natural shape rather than dramatic cleavage. Above a D cup, body tape lifts more.

Should I place a sticky bra higher for more lift?

A little higher than your natural line, yes, but not so high that the lower part of your bust sits outside the cup. Check the side view in a mirror.

Why does my sticky bra lose its lift during the day?

Usually sweat or skin products loosening the edges. Blot the skin dry, re-press the cups, and keep lotion and powder off your chest next time.

Can I adjust the cups after they've stuck?

Yes. Peel it off gently and place it again, but each attempt picks up a little skin oil and lint, so aim to get it right early and rinse the cups after the event.
